Linda Brandelius called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. at Orchard Creek Lodge, multipurpose room. Cal Meissen made a motion to approve the minutes of the last meeting with David Rodgers, seconding the motion.

Linda read the treasurer's report in the absence of Steve Dalaklis, reporting a deposit of $12 for bottle refund and $2187.33 is the balance.

Jerry Zimowske said that Allen Christensen's clinic will be held on Thursday and Friday (12th and 13th) of August at a cost of $11.00. Jerry also mentioned that the balls the club is now purchasing cost approximately $104.50 (including shipping cost) for 5 dozen and that we use these up in approximately 1 month. A discussion was held as to whether the club can afford to continue with this expense and decided to try.

Audrey Morse, a former member of the sports committee said that at one time clubs were granted a donation of $1000 and that she would look into this. (She later reported outside of the board meeting that $2000 would be granted, but that the money had to be spent on something that would last more than a year and that July 31 was the last day to request such donation).

Cal Meissen reported that 6-8 people are still showing up for training on Wednesdays and that he was still willing to help.

NEW BUSINESS

Kathy Dillon reported that the September 12, 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. is still set for the barbecue and dance at the Sports Pavilion. There will be a no host bar furnished by Orchard Creek and that the club must spend $200. If the members don't spend that much then balance will have to be paid from the treasury. The D.J. cost is $395 that will also come from the treasury. The cost of the dinner is $15 per attendee that will entitle him/her to chicken, tri-tip, salad and dessert.

Sue Jonas reported that the competitive league will start on August 17, with the red division playing on Tuesday from 8-12 and the green division on Thursday at the same time. Court 3 will be left for open play. Cal Meissen moved that courts 1 and 2 be used from 8-10 and court 1 only be used from 10-12. Jerry Zimowske seconded the motion. There will be 6 teams in each division.

Jim Westby reported that John Mastor's 80*** birthday party picture will be printed in the Compass and that the Lincoln News Messenger will print an article about Marilyn Duncan.

Carl Lee brought up the subject of courts 4 and 5 again, hoping that the Association would reconsider building/refurbishing 2 courts. He was visiting another community (Saddle Brook) wherein that pickleball club decided to increase membership to $100 a year in order to raise money to build courts. He thought we should consider something like this and is willing to find out from the Association if we would be able to do this without the CC&Rs being in conflict.

Carl, outside of a board meeting, reported that we would be able to raise money for such an effort and that in order for the current board to consider building, we would have to raise approximately $65,000 (1/2 of the cost).

OLD BUSINESS

Dave Rodgers reported that Sutter Hospital will not be able to sponsor a tournament this year due to budget cuts. He also reported that Golden State Collision is interested in sponsoring with a banner and a donation of $150. Golden State would expect the banner to be hung 12 times through the end of the year. Audrey Morse reported that Wells Fargo Security is also interested in a banner. Dave said he would check further into this.

Meadow Vista tournament will be held September 25-26, 2010.

Linda reported that Don's Awning is now going to put up our shade covering sometime this week per Bob Cooke. The refurbishing of courts 4 and 5 is to begin September 15. Linda will check again with Brandy Garcia about our first aid kit and the Regulation sign. If the first aid kit isn't in soon, Linda will purchase one and present a bill to Steve.

Jerry Zimowske reported that the Court Reservation System is up and running. Go to the website and in the top right hand corner is the link. He doesn’t think this reservation system will present a problem and is in a trial and error mode now. The reservation needs to be made by 7:00 p.m. the night before request and a print out of such request needs to be brought to the court and posted by person making the reservation. The drop in play is scheduled for 9-12 - reservations before 9:00 a.m.

The next board meeting will be held on September 14th.

Meeting was adjourned at 11:25 a.m.
